Cardiac MRI

Advanced imaging for heart structure, function, and blood flow
MRI scanner with a 3D-rendered human heart showing how cardiac MRI assesses heart structure, function, and blood vessels.

At IMAGES Diagnostic Center in Kuwait, we provide Cardiac MRI, the most advanced non-invasive imaging test for evaluating the heart and blood vessels. Unlike CT scans, MRI uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves — not radiation — to produce detailed, 3D images of the heart.

Cardiac MRI provides precise information about heart anatomy, pumping function, blood flow, scarring, and tissue damage, guiding doctors in diagnosis and treatment planning.

When Would You Need Cardiac MRI?

Your doctor may recommend a Cardiac MRI if:

  • You have known or suspected heart disease (coronary artery disease, myocarditis, cardiomyopathy).

  • You need evaluation of heart function (pumping efficiency, chamber size, ejection fraction).

  • You are being assessed for heart failure or valve disease.

  • You have had a heart attack, and your doctor needs to check for scarring or muscle viability.

  • You require a Stress Cardiac MRI to evaluate blood flow under simulated exercise conditions.

  • You were born with congenital heart disease and need a detailed view of heart structure and blood flow.

What To Expect

Before Your Scan

  • Remove all metal objects (jewelry, watches, cards).
  • Inform us if you have pacemakers, metal implants, or surgical clips.
  • Inform us if you have kidney disease or allergies (if contrast is planned).
  • Fasting is not usually required, unless scheduled for a stress test.

During Your Scan

  • You will lie on the MRI table, which slides into the scanner.
  • ECG leads are placed on your chest to sync images with your heartbeat.
  • A contrast dye (gadolinium) may be injected for clearer results.
  • The exam is painless but noisy — we provide earplugs or headphones.
  • Most exams last 30–60 minutes.

After Your Scan

  • Resume normal activities right away.
  • Drink water if contrast was used.
  • A cardiac radiologist reviews your scan, and your doctor receives results in 3–5 hours.
Risks
  • Cardiac MRI is generally very safe and involves no radiation.
  • Gadolinium contrast is safe for most patients, but not recommended in severe kidney disease.
  • Not suitable for some patients with pacemakers, implants, or metallic foreign bodies.
FAQs
What is a Cardiac MRI?

A non-invasive test that uses magnetic fields and radio waves (no radiation) to create detailed images of the heart’s structure, pumping function, blood flow, and tissue condition.

It may be recommended if you have heart disease, unexplained symptoms, abnormal test results, a history of heart attack, or if your doctor needs to check blood flow and tissue viability.

Most exams take 30–60 minutes, depending on whether contrast or stress testing is included.

Yes. It is safe for most patients and does not use radiation. Patients with pacemakers or certain implants should discuss with their doctor before scheduling.

At IMAGES Diagnostic Center, Cardiac MRI scans start from 270 KWD. Contact us for exact pricing and insurance details.

  • Cardiac CT: Best for detecting narrowed arteries and calcium buildup (uses low-dose radiation).

  • Cardiac MRI: Best for assessing heart structure, pumping function, scarring, and blood flow (no radiation).

Yes. It can reveal early tissue changes, blood flow problems, and scarring, even before symptoms appear.
